My wife and I were chatting about movies that had surprise endings. Three movies immediately came to mind. I won't say the endings, but just by mentioning the movies is sort of a spoiler alert. So, here goes. If you have not seen these movies, I urge you to stay away from the comments.
The first one is "The Crying Game." Forest Whitaker has an early role as he asks Stephen Rea to look after his girl played by Jaye Davidson should he be killed. Stephen's character feels duty-bound, but ends up falling in love. I will leave it that.
The second one is "A Sixth Sense," where the infamous line by Hayley Joel Osment to his psychiatrist played by Bruce Willis is "I see dead people." The movie is well done and has a host of other stars with Toni Colette (Osment's mother) and Olivia Williams (Willis' wife) playing key roles. But, I will leave it at that.
The third one is "Sophie's Choice" which won Meryl Streep a very deserving Oscar. It is one of the toughest movies about Nazi Germany you will ever watch. It has a large cast - Greta Turkel, Kevin Kline, Peter MacNichol to name a few, but the movie is Streep at her finest. So, I will leave it at that.
Let me know if you agree with these three. Please share some of yours as well. For the sake of those who may not have seen them, speak a little in code. For others, tread lightly in the comments.
