The old gives way to the new and unless we take a backstep we cannot give the new a chance to mould and create something new. It is difficult when you come of the age for retirement because work is part of your daily routine. It is a schedule that you follow everyday and once you are told to stop, it really becomes hard. I have come across many who find it difficult to cope with this and get into depression and suddenly age hits them. They begin to realise they are old and not of use. They never stayed at home and this takes very long to accept. If you ask me I would like to retire but after I have set up what I would like to do after I retire. So for that I need to plan and start something with a small group or two or three young energetic people who would continue with me as long as I can. I would like to start something that I always wanted to do, any interest or hobbies that can keep me engaged and in which I could involve people. Before retirement I would love to settle every responsibility in my life, I want to see my kids settled and as I continue my work till I retire I want to start something that I can enjoy and keep myself busy with once I do. Empty mind is a devil's workshop and I really believe in it out of experience. I have seen how a person who looked absolutely fit and active both mentally and physically breaks down after retirement as they feel they are worth nothing and that they have been removed as they are taken to be old. Emotional breakdowns, mood swings and loss of interest takes a toll on them. I would love to retire and then do what I love doing and for which I got no time in the years that I dedicated myself to work. I would love to use my experiences for something of my own. So I would retire happily after starting something that would keep me engaged till the end of my life. I would leave to make place for someone new and I would retire to live for myself and start afresh.
