Mystery at the Aquarium - 4 May 2023
Danger in the Deep Sea - 6 July 2023
Intelligent and inquisitive, Marena has always loved science so when she moves to secondary school, she's disappointed there are more rules, lessons are less fun and no one seems to appreciate her questions (or her jokes). When she's given the chance to be the student science reporter for the newsletter at the local aquaurium, a whole new world opens up for her. Marena jumps at the chance to find out more about the OceanXplorer mission and is determined to find out about every part of the aquarium.
In the first book in this brilliant scientific series, Mystery at the Aquaurium, Marena is curious about unexplained powercuts. Inspired by the scientists she interviews, she's determined to find out the answer. Could the aquarium be haunted?
In the second book, Danger in the Deep Sea, Marena is investigating Spanish galleons and underwater shipwrecks. Could there actually be treasure at the bottom of the sea? Her brother, Lucas, is given the opportunity of a lifetime - an internship onboard the OceanXplorer. When Marena visits him at the dock and becomes an accidental stowaway, she finds herself setting off on an adventure she could only dream of.

The OceanX series is a wonderful combination of exciting narrative and scientific facts. Marena's adventures with her friends and family take centre stage while teaching children about the ocean and the creatures who live there. The inclusion of Marena's newsletter article and notecards for her talk at the aquarium sleepover model effecive ways of sharing information that is engaging and full of facts. Based on a real ship, the OceanXplorer, the full-colour fact pages at the back of each book take children's thinking to another level. These are aspirational books, showing readers careers they may not have known about and challenging them to use their interests and natural curiosity to make a difference.
Thank you to Weldon Owen Children's Books for these fascinating books!
