Gov. Wes Moore, selected trial attorney Malcolm Ruff to represent Baltimore City's 41st district in the Maryland House of Delegates.

The 41st district includes neighborhoods in north, west, and southwest Baltimore.

"I am thankful to have the opportunity to advocate for our communities and to be a strong voice for my fellow residents," Ruff told The Baltimore Sun via email. "I look forward to helping lead the 41st District to even greater heights."

Ruff, a Democrat, was appointed by the governor to replace former Del. Tony Bridges, who was tapped by Moore's administration earlier this year to serve as the assistant secretary of transportation equity and engagement at the Maryland Department of Transportation.

Bridges resigned from the House in mid-May. Interviews to fill his seat were conducted earlier this month.

In a tweet posted Sunday, Bridges thanked Moore for selecting Ruff as his replacement, saying that he will be "great for the people of the district." A spokesman for Moore confirmed Ruff's appointment to The Baltimore Sun on Monday.

Thank you @iamwesmoore for appointing Malcolm Ruff to fill my position as the new Delegate for the 41st district. He'll be great for the people of the district. https://t.co/4vuoRAIrvd

The Baltimore City Democratic Central Committee recommended both Ruff and former Del. Angela Gibson to represent neighborhoods including Irvington, Edmonson Village, Roland Park, and the area surrounding Pimlico Race Course alongside Democratic Dels. Dalya Attar and Sandy Rosenberg in the House chamber.

"I am grateful and truly honored to have been selected by members of our State Central Committee and Governor Moore to represent West Baltimore in Annapolis," Ruff said.
