Extraction 2 is a 2023 American action thriller film. It is the sequel to the 2020 Extraction and they are both available on Netflix now. Tyler Rake (Chris Hemsworth), a black-ops mercenary in Extraction 2, is on the mend from the severe wounds he sustained on his previous mission in Extraction 1 . He retires to Austria's dense forests after his recovery to live in peace and seclusion. That retirement is disturbed when his ex-wife sends a mysterious man (Idris Elba) to find him and give him a new mission which was rescue his ex-wife's sister Ketevan (Tinatin Dalakishvili) and her children who are being held in a harsh prison after being sentenced to serve time in the prison in the Republic of Georgia. They are being held there by Davit who is Ketevan's husband and a harsh gangster.
In order to infiltrate the prison, Tyler is reunited with his assistants Nik (Golshifteh Farahani) and Yaz (Adam Bessa). However, it doesn't take long for them to realize that the mission will be harder than they had anticipated, especially when the Georgian gangsters show up intent on seeking revenge at all costs.
This is an action movie that will have you on the edge of your seat. Extraction 2 requires you to suspend your disbelief for the majority of the film, but if you do, you'll find it to be nearly nonstop enjoyment as frivolous action movie fare. Numerous conflict and battle sequences are highly detailed, especially those involving the escape from the Republic of Georgia prison, which is shown for several minutes in a single uninterrupted shot. Even though it is utterly over the top, it is outstanding for its attention to detail and constant rage. In some way, the film manages to fit in the tale and even some backstory for both the good people and the bad men. Although there isn't a lot of character development or complexity, there is enough to give the characters a more human quality than is typically found in action films of this level.
