They have been married for over 50 years.
They have weathered many storms.
They have forgotten and forgiven.
They have loved each other deeply.
But today…
It started with a simple statement that led to an argument.
It escalated to a full-blown, verbal punch-up.
It made the usually calm, soft-spoken, her lash out.
It got the short-tempered but never-bearing grudge, him hopping mad.
He got the box out of the cupboard.
She tried to stop him.
He said, "The memories have to go."
She said, " Don't you dare."
But today…
He was relentless.
She was defiant.
Neither remembered what started the quarrel.
Neither wanted to back out nevertheless.
She knew he would never destroy precious memories
She knew he wouldn't carry out his threat.
He pretended to snatch the box of memories.
He postured to throw it out.
But today...
She pretended she didn't care.
She turned around and busied herself.
He strode purposefully out.
He gently placed the box on the grass.
Her instinct said he would put it right back.
His instinct told him she knew he would.
Their memories built on love so strong.
Boxed in safe and secure where they belongs.
