Indian Origin appointed as World Bank president

Ajay Banga, Indian-American business leader, has been appointed as the next President of the World Bank. Through this appointment it looks forward to working with him on the World Bank Group Evolution process.

The World Bank management has opted Ajay Banga as President of the World Bank for a five-year term.

Ajay Banga:

Born: 10^th November 1959

He was born in Sikh family residing in Pune, Maharashtra. He completed his graduation in India and also pursued PGP degree in management from IIM, Ahmedabad.

He got US citizenship in 2007. He worked in USA with various companies and institutions.

In February, President Joe Biden has nominated Ajay Banga with the belief that he might lead the World Bank as he is "well equipped" to lead the global institution at "this critical moment in history.

Mr. Banga is expected to work at the World Bank Group Evolution process for the World Bank Group's ambitions and efforts with an aim of tackling the toughest development challenges facing developing countries.

The Government of India has honored Mr. Ajay Banga with Padma Shri in 2016.
