There is so much talk about gender identity. What is a woman? The truth is I can't believe we are even entertaining this conversation.
I am definitely not being disrespectful. A lot of hard work and many have sacrificed to get us to open dialogue.
AND.........
It gets so confusing as scholars and our future leaders are arguing back and forth on a topic I believe to be at the root of why we are not able to see the bigger picture. Why are we splitting people up into categories, and subcategories? For easy identification? For what purpose?
Do we still believe that not all people are human and worthy of life?
Categories are a necessary hierarchical structure that keeps everything clear. What is clear to me is we have sub-categories for people and things we either value or don't value. If we saw human life at the top of this hierarchical structure, which would include everyone, we could move on to other topics.
Human Rights! Human Rights! Are we still debating who is valued in our context of what "human rights" means?
Almost everyone is in agreement about what is "human", Right? ( hopeful we all understand "human" although I question whether or not we are still at the place of justifying our existence to some higher court that has no compassion or understanding of "humanity".)
Not saying these discussions about gender aren't informative. It speaks to a pattern of disavowing humanity, that is far too familiar in Our history.
As evidenced by protesting for Civil Rights in the '60s, a sub-category of Humans Rights.
Women's Rights (a sub-category of Human Rights, usurped by white women for equal pay which did not include Black and Brown women/men who are still waiting for Civil Rights and be treated as Humans.)
And LGBTQA+ Rights (a sub-category of Human Rights and a sub-sub-category of Civil Rights)
Definitely not Equal, Never Equal, Definitely!!!
FYI: I don't care if we all go to the same bathroom, just close the freaking door.
