Et si l'IA générative créait l'AIOps dont les entreprises ont besoin ? La question fait sens. Explications de Lori MacVittie, Principal Technical Evangelist, Office of the CTO, F5 Networks
« Pour nous, chez F5 Networks, ChatGPT nous a donné un aperçu de ce que nous pourrions faire différemment, notamment quant à la distribution et la sécurité des applications », explique Lori MacVittie.
De fait, ChatGPT a popularisé la puissance des LLM (Large Language Models) et a démontré de manière spectaculaire non seulement le potentiel des IA génératives, mais également leur capacité à s'intégrer facilement dans les processus pour transformer notre façon de travailler et nos interactions avec les machines. Question : et si l'IA générative créait l'AIOps dont les entreprises ont besoin ?
L'IA générative est une application d'apprentissage automatique qui permet de créer une variété de contenus tels que du texte, des images ou du son à partir de l'utilisation du langage naturel. Le principe a gagné en popularité avec l'introduction des projets Dall-E et ChatGPT d'OpenAI, qui ont conduit à une explosion de nouvelles utilisations dans tous les secteurs et à tous niveaux.
De l'impératif au déclaratif en passant par le génératif
L'un des défis de l'infrastructure consiste à configurer la myriade d'appareils, de services et de systèmes nécessaires pour fournir et sécuriser ne serait-ce qu'une seule application. Les entreprises s'appuient en moyenne sur 23 services applicatifs différents, hors offres « as a service », note Lori MacVittie.
« Inutile de dire que la configuration d'une application Web et d'un service de protection d'API est différente de la configuration d'un simple service d'équilibrage de charge. Cela signifie que les personnes chargées de configurer et d'exploiter les services applicatifs doivent parfois être expertes dans une douzaine de langues différentes. »
L'industrie essaie de résoudre ce problème depuis des années. Lorsque les API se sont imposées comme le principal moyen de tout configurer, les services de livraison et de sécurité des applications n'ont pas fait exception. Tout le monde a commencé avec des API impératives, qui ont simplement changé la façon d'émettre des commandes. Au lieu d'entrer des commandes sur une interface de programmation, elles devaient être envoyées à l'API via HTTP.
Très vite, il est apparu que le coût des API lié à l'utilisation des API impératives était trop élevé. L'industrie s'est alors tournée vers les API déclaratives. Malheureusement, la plupart des acteurs de l'industrie ont décidé que déclaratif signifie « configuration en JSON ». Ainsi, à la place de l'intention qui sous-tend le déclaratif, à savoir « dis-moi ce que tu veux faire et je le ferai pour toi », on se retrouve avec « voici la configuration Je veux, réussir à y parvenir ».
Moins de 15 secondes pour générer le code, sans formation
Ce que propose l'IA générative, c'est une forme de « low code » ou « no code ». Les IA sont plus fiables car elles sont basées sur des spécifications bien formées qui guident la génération des résultats. Après tout, il n'y a qu'un nombre limité de façons d'écrire « hello world », alors qu'il existe des millions de façons de répondre à une question.
« En d'autres termes, je devrais être capable de dire à un modèle formé, 'je veux configurer mon équilibreur de charge pour mettre à l'échelle l'application A', et le système devrait pouvoir générer une configuration, poursuit Lori MacVittie. Mais plus que ça, je devrais pouvoir lui dire : 'fais-moi un script pour faire X sur le système Y en utilisant Z' et le tour est joué ! Non seulement doit-il générer la configuration, mais également l'automatisation nécessaire pour le déployer sur le bon système. »
Certes, ce n'est pas du code prêt pour la production -ni l'adresse IP ni les informations d'identification ne sont valides et c'est Python qui n'est ni mon premier, ni mon deuxième, ni mon troisième choix. Mais c'est 90 % du chemin à parcourir, basé sur une documentation accessible au public et remarquablement facile à utiliser. « Encore une fois, ce code n'est pas prêt à être déployé, mais il n'est pas loin de fonctionner, et il m'a fallu littéralement moins de quinze secondes pour le générer, sans aucune formation. »
De la production à l'automatisation
« Je dis souvent que l'IA et l'automatisation sont des multiplicateurs de force. La technologie ne sait pas quoi faire, nous le savons. Mais l'IA et l'automatisation peuvent le faire beaucoup plus rapidement et plus efficacement, ce qui se traduit par une multiplication par dix de la productivité, un temps de création de valeur accru et le temps libéré par les experts pour se concentrer sur les décisions et les projets stratégiques. Et au fil du temps, l'IA peut apprendre de notre expérience, multiplier encore nos capacités et ouvrir de nouvelles possibilités. »
Ce n'est plus de la science-fiction, mais de la réalité informatique. « L'IA générative créera les AIOps dont nous avons besoin, soutient Lori MacVittie. De nombreuses solutions AIOps actuelles se concentrent uniquement sur la fourniture des informations qui manquent à 98 % des entreprises. »
Même les plates-formes AIOps qui peuvent agir de manière plus autonome (comme les services de sécurité) s'appuient fortement sur des configurations préexistantes et des réponses bien formées. Ils n'utilisent généralement pas l'IA pour permettre aux opérations de s'exécuter de manière plus autonome sur des couches de sécurité et de livraison d'applications hétérogènes. Ils utilisent l'IA pour l'analyse des données et pour obtenir des informations que nous, en tant qu'humains, n'avons pas la capacité ou le temps de rechercher. Mais cela s'arrête souvent là, du moins pour les couches au-dessus du réseau et les problèmes de sécurité bien connus.
« C'est là que l'IA générative peut prendre le relais. Et c'est pourquoi j'essaie maintenant de comprendre jusqu'où nous pouvons pousser cette technologie pour rendre la livraison et la sécurité des applications extrêmement simples… »
