Nobody wants to have bad breath. Bad breath may be really humiliating. However, many people experience this problem occasionally or suffer from illnesses such as halitosis. Bad breath can undermine a person's self-esteem in social circumstances. As a result, this is not an issue to ignore, and it requires immediate treatment. There are several ways to treat this condition, and understanding the cause of foul breath is the first step towards resolving it. Let's look at some of the possible reasons for bad breath.

Poor Oral Hygiene

Failing to follow a proper oral health regimen can contribute to the problem of bad breath. This will happen as food particles will remain in your mouth or between your teeth. It can contribute to bad breath. Cleaning your teeth thoroughly is recommended to counteract bad breath. Brush your teeth and scrape your tongue twice a day to reduce plaque build-up. Antibacterial mouthwash or hyaluronic acid mouthwash also works well. It not only relieves bad breath but also prevents oral illnesses such as gum disease and tooth decay.

Dry Mouth

Saliva aids in the breakdown of food particles and the elimination of odour-causing bacteria in the mouth. On the other hand, a lack of saliva in the mouth indicates that you are suffering from dry mouth. All this can lead to bad breath. Smoking, alcohol, coffee and some medical conditions also cause dry mouth problems. You can try some hyaluronic acid mouthwash that can hydrate and lubricate the soft tissues in your mouth. You can also try drinking more water and chewing sugar-free gum to stimulate saliva production. It can help minimise spells of bad breath as well. If the problem of dry mouth persists, see your dentist for an accurate diagnosis and treatment.

Foods And Drinks

Consumption of certain beverages and foods contributes to bad breath. Certain ingredients, such as garlic, onion, and horseradish, are major contributors to bad breath. Aside from that, foods and beverages rich in sugar and starch might lead to the development of odour-causing bacteria. If you are unable to exclude certain items from your diet, be sure to rinse your mouth with antimicrobial mouthwash or hyaluronic acid mouthwash after each meal. It is also critical to stay hydrated by drinking enough water to keep your mouth clean and prevent bad breath.

Smoking And Tobacco

We all know how harmful smoking is to our health. But do you know that smoking is also associated with bad breath? If you look closely, you will see that smoking always leaves you with harsh, persistent, and terrible breath. Cigarettes include tobacco, nicotine, and tar, which contribute to the intense odour. Cigarette smoke can remain in your mouth even after you've smoked your last fig of the day. Not only that, but it also lowers saliva production and dries up your mouth. All of this creates a bad smell to emit from your mouth. Using an antibiotic mouthwash or hyaluronic acid mouthwash with a strong mint flavour will help mask the unpleasant odour.

In most cases, the abovementioned are the leading contributing factors to bad breath. You can combat this problem by following a proper oral hygiene routine. Routines that include -brushing your teeth and scraping your tongue to remove bacteria and other microscopic particles that may be causing bad breath. Followed by using quality antibacterial mouthwash or hyaluronic acid mouthwash with a hint of mint to enhance your breath. And lastly, regular visits to the dentist can help to identify any underlying dental problems that can cause bad breath.
