La représentation des femmes au sein des startups et scale-ups belges continue de stagner. openthebox et Agoria ne constatent aucune évolution.
« Plusieurs études internationales ont montré que les entreprises fondées et dirigées par des femmes enregistraient de meilleures performances en termes d'efficacité, de retour sur investissement et de bénéfices d'exploitation. Elles obtiennent de meilleurs scores ESG et investissent davantage dans la formation et l'évolution de leurs collaborateurs. La priorité à la diversité de genre devrait aller de soi »
Hélas, on en est loin, regrette Laurence Jacobs, Women in Tech Ambassador, Agoria. En effet, malgré quelques avancées, le constat est plutôt négatif. Les fondatrices et administratrices font encore exception dans le secteur, estiment openthebox et Agoria. Et cela en dépit de bien des efforts.
Le nombre d'administratrices a regressé
A l'occasion de la journée « International Girls in ICT », la plateforme openthebox, qui recueille des données d'exploitation et cartographie les réseaux d'entreprises à l'aide d'une technologie IA avancée, et la fédération sectorielle Agoria se sont penchées sur les données de quelque 300 startups et scale-ups technologiques belges qui ont participé aux fameux programmes d'accélération comme imec.istart, Start It KBC et Deloitte's Technology Fast 50. Elles ont analysé la proportion de femmes fondatrices, administratrices, salariées par rapport à la proportion d'hommes, en se concentrant sur les entreprises créées de 2011 à 2022. S'il y a progrès, il reste faible. Evalué à 8 % pour la période comprise entre 2011 et 2016, le pourcentage de femmes fondatrices de startups créées entre 2017 et 2022 n'a progressé que de 2 %.
« Le pourcentage d'administratrices a même régressé, passant de 15 à 13 %, enchaîne Steve Deplacie, Managing Director, openthebox. Quant au nombre de femmes salariées, il est resté relativement stable, avec une salariée sur trois. Il y a donc encore une belle marge de croissance à tous les niveaux de représentation féminine. »
Diversité ? Vous avez dit diversité ?
Parmi toutes les entreprises analysées, 79 % comptent des membres fondateurs exclusivement masculins contre seulement 3 % de membres fondatrices. Dans le groupe des administrateurs, il y a encore pas mal de pain sur la planche en termes de diversité. 71 % des entreprises comptent uniquement des administrateurs masculins, alors que 26 % seulement des entreprises comptent au moins une administratrice en plus d'un homme administrateur. Il ressort d'une analyse complémentaire effectuée auprès d'environ 70 startups ayant un membre fondateur féminin que 85 % de ces entreprises comptaient aussi au moins un membre cofondateur masculin. Ces entreprises comptent au total 83 fondatrices et 129 fondateurs.
« Les membres fondateurs de sexe féminin ne recrutent pas pour autant plus de salariés féminins, observe Laurence Jacobs. Les femmes restent largement sous-représentées, leur part étant seulement d'environ 30 %. Les conseils d'administration de ce groupe d'entreprises se composent de 32 % de membres féminins. »
Femmes, briser le statu quo
Dans son plan stratégique « Technology for a better world », Agoria vise la nomination d'au moins 25 % de femmes à des postes de direction d'ici 2030. La fédération sectorielle considère également que les accélérateurs et les fonds d'investissement ont un rôle positif à jouer pour briser ce statu quo. D'une part, ils peuvent tenir compte de la diversité de genres lors de l'encadrement des jeunes entreprises à la recherche de membres cofondateurs pour leur projet. D'autre part, tant les fonds d'investissement publics que privés peuvent accorder davantage d'attention à la composition de leurs conseils d'administration lorsqu'ils nomment des représentants.
Des études ont révélé que les équipes composées de genres mixtes, de profils multiculturels et d'âges divers prenaient de meilleures décisions. Bien que la complémentarité des profils soit souvent privilégiée lors de la composition de conseils consultatifs, il semblerait que ce soit bien moins souvent le cas pour les conseils d'administration.
En attendant, la trajectoire des femmes entrepreneurs est considérablement plus difficile ; elles sont toujours confrontées aux mêmes stéréotypes…
