Spring and the celebration of Easter always make me think about new life. I don't know about you, but I know there have been times when I've thought about what it would be like to be given a whole new life, like witness protection or some freak accident that gave me a whole new fresh start to life. My past was totally gone and the future would be wide open to whatever I wanted to create of it.
However most of us won't have that clean slate handed to us. If we want a fresh start it's up to us to let go of the stuff we don't want and forge a new path to where we want to go. The good news is that any of us can make that choice and make that new future we've dreamed about. It may not be easy, it seems very difficult for the grass and plants to make an appearance this spring after a hard winter, but they do it slowly but surely and so can we.
Honestly, it's good that we don't usually get cut off from our past immediately, because moving slowly and intentionally from old to new means that we'll be in control and completely responsible for all choices and decisions that happen. This means that we can slowly let go of the bad, dealing with our fears and concerns as they pop up.
Nature is programmed to make spring happen, we're programed too in a sense to have dreams and desires of bigger and better things. One of the biggest challenges we face is accepting that it's time for changes to happen to get us one step closer to our dreams and desires. If change is something that makes you feel scared or overwhelmed, you're not alone; change freaks many people out. If you know it's time for a change and you have trouble adjusting to changes you can make a detailed list of things that need to get done to make that dream a reality or get through that change well. The list isn't to overwhelm you but to help you know the steps, and plan out a step to take each day that will help you accomplish that list in a timely but more comfortable manner.
Whether you're going to spend time celebrating in the coming week or not, take time in the coming days and weeks to make your goal to list and choose to walk into the next fulfilling and satisfying part of your life journey.
"Even though you may want to move forward in your life, you may have one foot on the brakes. In order to be free, we must learn how to let go. Release the hurt. Release the fear. Refuse to entertain your old pain. The energy it takes to hang onto the past is holding you back from a new life. What is it you would let go of today?" Mary Manin Morrissey
