Sitting in the lap
of the clouds in the sky,
O dear moon,
you make people on earth
celebrate sometimes Eid
and sometimes Karva Chauth,
just by showing a glimpse
of your cute face...
Poets of all hues
do not get tired of applauding
your beauty and coolness,
rockets are being launched
to decode your mystery
and to bring it down on earth...
But it is good,
you keep tempting us
by sitting somewhere far away,
if you were on earth,
people would have entangled you
on the basis of religion,
caste, creed and gender,
would have made you go round
various layers of courts,
and spicy cases
of your inadvertent eclipses
would have been headlines
of newspaper every day...
No one spared
even the moon of my street,
which every day
I surreptitiously used to go to see,
on my broken bicycle...
Distance is necessary, dear,
for love and joy
and to enjoy and maintain
your health, beauty and elegance...
