MY JOURNEY TO FERTILITY: THE INTRODUCTION

DATE: January 21, 2023

Let me start this off by saying that I inserted a date for this blog post to reflect the date I wrote it. This post and all future published posts on this journey will be the only ones with dates. As of now, my intention is not to publish this series as it is happening in real life, but to publish when I think I am comfortable with sharing this publicly, whether that outcome is good or bad.

This series is being written for other women who are in the same journey as me and to let them know that they are not alone in this. Regardless of how this ends, whether I have my baby or not, I have made peace with the reality of PCOS when I received my diagnosis. That does not mean I will be numb to the emotions of this journey.

If you are new here, I've discussed PCOS before. You can feel free to check out these blog posts:

  • PCOS and Body Image - My Struggle
  • PCOS Awareness Month: Living With PCOS
  • "What If We Can't Have Kids?"

Having kids is something Kevin and I always discussed and we recently decided to expand our family. Originally our plan was to try starting around November/December of this year, wait six months to one year maximum to see if I could conceive on my own before we begin the doctors' visits. Yes, plural for doctors. However by doing that it means I'll more than likely be seeking specialized help when I'm about 32, leaving me with a three year window before I turn 35 to get pregnant.

Why 35 you might ask?

The chances of being pregnant after 35 will drastically decrease for me. Not to mention all the complications and risks that are associated with PCOS and pregnancy. If I do not have a baby by the age of 35, that will be the end of my pregnancy journey. So here's to hoping for the best.

Where are we right now?

We are in the early stages of this journey. Last year December we decided to start trying from this month. However there is a major hiccup. I have not had a period in seven months which is termed as amenorrhea and is known to lead to or cause infertility in women. In case you're thinking well take a pregnancy test just in case you are pregnant, for twelve hours the possibility existed due to some inexplicable back pain I was experiencing for a week and the pregnancy test was negative.

I've spoken to two pharmacists about not having a period, prenatal vitamins and trying to get pregnant and they recommended a drug called Myo and D-Chiro Inositol which has supposedly helped women who suffer with PCOS get pregnant. Now I am not a doctor and I am not recommending anything to anyone, I do strongly suggest checking with your doctor before taking anything.

Right now I have two options: one is to start the Myo and D-Chiro Inositol and see if that induces my period and the second option is to visit my GP and gynecologist to see what treatment they recommend to induce my period.

So until next time.

THE END
