Moist attack in Chhattisgarh

The District Reserve Guard (DRG)'s 10 jawans and 1 driver were killed due to Maoists attack in south Chhattisgarh's Dantewada district. The team of DRG was returning in a van from a security operation and sudden attackwith bomb took place on their vehicle.

This is the biggest attack carried out by Maoists on the security forces in the state in the last two years – in 2021, 22 security personnel were killed in an ambush along the border of Sukma and Bijapur districts.

The slain security personnel were from the District Reserve Guard (DRG). DRG is a state force which carries out anti-Maoist operations.

Reinforcements of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and DRG had reached the spot after an attack took place.

Sources said that around 200 security personnel had got information about the presence of Maoists in the area's Darbha division and they had start out from Dantewada district headquarters.

The security personnel went on a private vehicle because a police vehicle could have drew the attention of Maoists. Even though they used private vehicle, the attackers had identified the vehicle.

About District Reserve Guard:

The DRG is a special force of the Chhattisgarh police and had been formed in 2008 to search for anti-Maoist operations in the state and stop them to happen.

In the force mostly local tribals have been recruited and they performed several successful anti-Maoist operations there.

According to a Central intelligence officer, protocol prescribes that security forces take action forward during an operation only after getting specific intelligence inputs and sanitisation of the route.

Security forces sometimes take advice of the Road Opening Party (ROP) for safety and surety that there is no threat to the convoy.

Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh Bhupensh Bagel canceled his election campaign tour to Karnataka to visit Dantewada.
