As reported by state-owned ABS Television, Antigua and Barbuda Prime Minister Gaston Browne has rejected opposition calls for his resignation over last week's boat tragedy.
Three people died, and thirteen were missing after a fishing vessel that left Antigua overturned and sank off St. Kitts and Nevis.
Emergency responders rescued sixteen individuals, including two Antigua and Barbuda nationals.
Thirty-two people, mainly West African migrants, were on board the vessel.
Prime Minister Gaston Browne described anyone blaming his administration for the calamity as mischievous.
"You all not getting the government so easily," was his response to those calling for his resignation.
"You have to go back to the polls and the people of Antigua and Barbuda will decide. So any idea that myself or any member of my administration will resign and to literally, let's say precipitate the governance of the country - it ain't going to happen," Browne declared.
"I know many of them. They've been out in the cold for nine years, and they can't wait. They're desperate," the Antigua and Barbuda leader said.
The authorities have confirmed that some migrants aboard the ill-fated vessel arrived in Antigua and Barbuda late last year.
The boat tragedy has triggered a major investigation.
