This post is for educational purposes and is inspired by complaints of some men and women, concerning some women's feminine health and hygiene. This is not a post meant to blame anyone. It's an important topic because these are ongoing health issues for some women.
Well, I feel bad for those women- and the men. By now, at least some of you probably know I am not afraid to talk about uncomfortable topics. This is a sensitive topic. We are adults, right? One thing about some Christians is that they tend to shy away from addressing the more private and potentially uncomfortable topics.
That is fine. However, I will be addressing some sensitive matters in this post. If it will offend you when I talk about matters of hygiene and intimacy, I understand. My apologies. My goal is not to offend. I suggest you not read this post if you find such information offensive.
I find myself wondering if more effort and proactive care would be put into sanitary practices if men could get honeymoon cystitis. In addition, a woman should never be afraid to respectfully and firmly make her needs known when it comes to taking care of her health.
Stores, pharmacies and insurance companies are making big profits off of prescriptions, creams, pills, powders, antibiotics and other products for women to treat their feminine health and hygiene problems. Many of these creams, sprays and other products to treat symptoms are causing more health problems in women.
A woman's body is not defective. It self- cleanses, it is complex, delicate and sometimes not well-taken care of or protected. God created women's bodies just fine. So...why are many women having health problems that often arise in their bedrooms?
Women's hygeine issues and infections are often a result of dealing with men sexually [1].
First of all, I am referring to bacterial infections that are often a result of unsanitary practices. I'm not referring to standard stds. Those are another story. Bacterial infections don't always come from bad sanitary habits, but often, they do for many women.
Gentlemen are not to blame for what they don't know. I imagine plenty don't understand or think ahead about these things. I am pointing out facts that unfortunately are not discussed enough proactively. Typically, girls are taught to keep themselves clean. Teaching good hygiene is sometimes one-sided, with the focus being more on girls and women keeping themselves clean.
A woman can have meticulous hygiene and still get an infection as a result of becoming involved with her husband. The focus for cleanliness should also be on men having good sanitary habits and cleaning themselves up.
Ideally, men should learn about the need to be considerate and clean with their wives before they get married. A father can appropriately warn his son ahead of time to be clean and careful with his future wife, without giving too many details, for example. Why not?
A man's fluids can even throw a woman's pH off [2]. Repetitive, careless interactions can leave a woman vulnerable to infections. Some people treat these particular health issues as if they are normal. They may be common, but are often optional; not exactly normal.
Getting an infection is one of the body's natural responses after it has been attacked by foreign and harmful agents. Certainly, not all feminine health problems are from careless, unsanitary practices.
Neither are they always a result of women dealing with men. I also know that some men and women are indeed already aware of these sensitive issues. The issue is not that husbands and wives cannot have fulfilling sex lives. They need to be careful. That is the need, is to handle each other with care, consideration, and in a sanitary way.
Sex is only for husbands and wives, according to God's design and commands. Also, taking preventative health measures makes perfectly good sense.
• Hands need to be washed and clean before intimacy.
• Nails should be trimmed and kept clean underneath.
• Drinking plenty water helps. Eliminating it regularly from the body also helps things remain flushed.
• Both hands and bodies should be clean, in order to prevent infections.
• Swapping germs from one place in or on the body to another more vulnerable place in the body should be completely avoided. Ecoli can be spread this way [3].
• Common sense goes a long way!
• Each spouse benefits from being considerate of the other.
• Spouses and all people benefit from practicing the golden rule.
• Women should understand that tight-fitting, aesthetically pleasing undergarments may not be best for them, since these garments contribute to these problems. There are cute garments that fit better and are more "friendly" in that regard.
• It is important to glorify God in body and spirit.
• The Golden Rule will always be relevant.
