"I realized it's actually harder to reply to messages when you don't do it immediately," Charlotte reflects.
"Really?" Chloe put her book down.
"Yeah. Among other things, it's like ... for example, the longer you wait to reply, the more you realize that there's less and less urgency to do so, does it make sense? Or ... that when you just received a message, it comes with a certain conversational momentum, making it easier to hop in. As soon as you leave the message a bit longer, it loses momentum; not to mention it 'sinking' down the chat lists as new other messages come in.
"It's simply too easy to ignore chats that aren't really important to you, especially that way.
"But the fact that someone still replies even after hours or even days passes by, and with such a presence ... I think it tells you that they do care about you."
"I see. That's relieving; enlighteningly relieving, isn't it?" Chloe smiles.
"And I wouldn't have realized that had I not taken the time myself to wait to reply," Charlotte says gratefully.
"You are a good person, Charlotte. You deserve, and now you know you do have, a good friend on your side."
"Thanks, Chloe."
