.
if you ask...
i will pull back the mask
pull you back from your mask
back to blacks out
if you so solicit mute
as the curtain
the window
the walls
make fools of us all
the ceiling
the doors
the floors
are , shhhh, illusionary , my dears
aren't you curious?
.
whispers whisper beware
of what's out there, the chimare
that's fear, my dear
it's what's in here
that's real
not what you taste, touch and feel
the curtain, the walls, the doors just conceal
what's real
what's real?
are you curious enough?
to remove the mask and ask
yourself the truth of what is truth
to pull back the curtain to attain
the uncertain unleashing
the infinite unpleasing
? are just just curious enough
? are you too curious , ssshush
perhaps
perchance
you sleep
the recurring dream of the imaginary reality
security of walls and doors and curtains and floors
? again and again, i ask, are you curious enough, too curious, to ask
shhhh
.
not a haiku

for the first day of Na/GloPoWriMo. They say you can't judge a book by its cover, but they never said you can't try to write a poem based on a book cover — and that's your challenge for today! Take a look through Public Domain Review's article on "The Art of Book Covers." Some of the featured covers are beautiful. Some are distressing. Some are just plain weird (I'm looking at you, "Mr Sweet Potatoes").
