20 Years of SWAGAT portal

A programme has been organized to celebrate 20 years of the SWAGAT (State Wide Attention on Grievances by Application of Technology) initiative of the Gujarat government. This programme has been attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi via video conferencing.

Narendra Modi had launched this initiative in 2003 when he was chief minister of Gujarat. At the programme he interacted with the beneficiaries of the project.

The idea behind Swagat initiative was to encourage citizens to stand on their problems and welcome the views of the common citizens in democratic institutions. As SWAGAT stand by the idea of Ease of Living and Reach of Governance it always works to resolve problems of citizens and fix it for smooth daily life.

A practical system:

Government had constituted a practical system for SWAGAT.

The first systems of public hearings under SWAGAT instituted at the block and tehsil levels. The district magistrate was made responsible at the district level.

Even though the SWAGAT programme was arranged only once a week, the work related to it would be done all through the month as there were hundreds of grievances.

SWAGAT is an inspiration to create system for many solutions to governance.

Central government has created a system called Pragati same as SWAGAT to review the working of the government.

Launched: 25^th March, 2015

It is a multi- purpose, multi-modal, integrating and interactive platform. The platform addresses common citizen's grievances and reviews the flagship programs and schemes of central government as well as state governments.
