Your mental illness isn't your fault, but it is your responsibility. Responsibility means accepting the consequences of your actions. It means knowing that changing is what you must do but forgiveness for your past isn't a guarantee, nor is it a reward for your past. The people you've hurt decide if you're forgiven. And you have to accept when they can't or won't give you that, regardless of how much you have changed, mental illness is not an excuse for appalling behavior. Yes, it sucks that you have this disease, but it doesn't excuse what you put people through. Expecting people to accept your apology just because you have apologized is a form of abuse. It's your right to apologize, but it's not my responsibility to accept the apology.
