(Exodus 37:1-9) (ESV) Making the Ark of the Covenant…Do you know that's your heart? (Prov. 4:23) "Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life." When we are born again, God gives us a heart to know Him, to seek Him and His Word, and also to obey Him. (Philippians 2:13) (Deut. 11:18) (1Chron. 22:19 (Jer. 24:7)) (Ezek. 36:26) (Luke 10:27) (Psalm 40:8-10) "I delight to do your will, O my God; your law is within my heart."
(Matt. 12:34) "You brood of vipers! How can you speak good, when you are evil? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks." (Luke 6:45) speaks of good treasure, or evil treasure being stored up in our hearts. That good treasure consists of positive image, personal responsibility and power, discipline, integrity, etc. The bad treasure consists of dishonesty, ignobility attitude and actions (lying, stealing, manipulation, etc.) Good treasure is deposited by good teachers and good results/rewards ("great job, son/daughter", "see, you can do it!", "you're beautiful inside and out," "I love you," etc.) Bad treasure is deposited by bad teachers and bad experiences (abuse, addiction, battery and bullying, manipulation, neglect, rejection etc.) That's the very reason we must be born again. God not only is an awesome parent and teacher in righteousness. He also helps us to make sense of all that bad stuff, so that we can overcome it. God helps us to break its hold on our hearts, minds, and lives. That's where the overlay with pure gold inside and out comes in. Think of a very old and beat up, tarnished cup. God cleans that up, straightens it out, and overlays it with gold. That gold is His Word, His love, and His Spirit within us. It is all three of these in our hearts that encase that covenant which restores to us our divine nature. That's where the Mercy Seat comes in. It is now called, Jesus Christ, our Lord.
