Lorsqu'il s'agit de coordonner en toute sécurité des drones pour effectuer une tâche, les réseaux 5G privés fournissent des liens essentiels de communication.
Première mondiale : 70 drones vont soutenir les services d'urgence du pays. Via SENSE, Citymesh passe de la smart city à la smart country. Trente-cinq zones d'urgence à travers le pays disposeront chacune de deux appareils dans un concept de DiaB (Drone-in-a-Box). Pratiquement, pour chaque appel d'urgence, et en fonction de la nature de celui-ci, un drone de sécurité décollera pour recueillir des informations critiques dans les 15 premières minutes. L'idée : tirer parti des images en définition 4K, y compris les images thermiques enrichies d'IA. Celles-ci, en effet, génèrent plus d'informations sur la situation. De là, une meilleure prise de décisions, plus rapide aussi. Concrètement, les images sont envoyées via le réseau 5G de Citymesh au centre d'urgence et aux secouristes.
Un marché nouveau est en train d'exploser : la 5G pour les drones. Lorsqu'il s'agit de coordonner en toute sécurité des drones pour effectuer une tâche. Et de miser sur un atout : la fiabilité des réseaux 5G privés. Leurs promoteurs avancent la combinaison vitesse et faible latence associée à l'informatique de pointe.
Drones sur site, sans intervention manuelle
Aujourd'hui, la majorité des business cases concerne la collecte de données. Il n'est donc plus nécessaire d'envoyer des personnes inspecter des sites parfois dangereux. Il n'est plus nécessaire, non plus, d'attendre l'atterrissage pour télécharger des données vitales. Aujourd'hui, les chercheurs testent la bonne combinaison de 5G, de calcul en périphérie mobile et l'apport de l'IA.
Sur ce chemin, les drones du port d'Anvers ont l'avance. Ils sont utilisés sur le site sans intervention manuelle. Ils détectent les nappes de pétrole et les débris flottants. De même, ils inspectent les infrastructures, coordonnent la sécurité, soutiennent la gestion du trafic maritime. Ils font aussi du suivi de chantiers, de la gestion d'actifs…
Le projet D-Hive est mené par 6th NeTWorK, un consortium destiné au développement de services de drones. Le partenariat rassemble DroneMatrix, développeur de drones et logiciels pour drones, SkeyDrone, prestataire de services pour le trafic aérien de drones, et Proximus.
Un réseau de drones peut également être intéressant dans les villes ou zones industrielles. Pour Proximus, le développement des services de drones s'appuie d'ores et déjà sur la combinaison de nombreux domaines d'expertise. Il ne s'agit pas seulement de l'aspect IoT et de la connectivité via la 5G, l'IA et la sécurité ont aussi leur importance, notamment pour le traitement des images.
Une composante essentielle pour de nombreux métiers
Avec les drones, l'objectif est d'être aussi rapide que le cerveau humain dans le traitement des informations visuelles. Objectif : permettre aux opérateurs de voir et de réagir en temps réel. Avec la 5G, plus besoin d'attendre l'atterrissage du drone. De là, de nouvelles possibilités.
Le projet Rail Inspect avec Infrabel et NRB, mené dans le cadre des programmes Industrie du Futur et Giga Région de Digital Wallonia, illustre parfaitement cette tendance. Un PoC sera mené sur la ligne de chemin de fer 162, entre Grupont et Hatrival. Cette partie de l'infrastructure ferroviaire se trouve dans une zone blanche de connectivité. Qui plus est, cette portion de rails se trouve le long de falaises escarpées et est soumise à des conditions météorologiques parfois difficiles. L'idée : communiquer, au départ d'une antenne mobile 5G avec un drone qui réalisera diverses captures de données à des fins de prévention de sécurité et de dégradations. Les caméras sur le drone pourront, grâce à l'antenne 5G, communiquer avec le data center de NRB où le traitement de données sera réalisé quasi en temps réel.
Des perspectives totalement nouvelles
La 5G, une affaire de drones ? De toute évidence, les missions de drones 5G constituent désormais une composante essentielle pour de nombreux métiers de l'industrie, de la santé, des smart cities ou de l'agriculture. Si leur automatisation et leur intégration aux autres opérations présente des similitudes avec le développement d'autres services 5G par un opérateur de réseaux mobiles, la connectivité aérienne offre des perspectives de recherche totalement nouvelles. Il s'agit avant tout d'évaluer les performances en altitude de réseaux initialement conçus pour des usages au sol. Il s'agit aussi de comprendre dans quelle mesure, et sous quelles conditions, ceux-ci peuvent intégrer ces nouveaux usages. L'acquisition d'un tel savoir-faire permet alors une prise de décision éclairée sur les scénarios à cibler, sur les services à développer et, d'une manière générale, sur la stratégie à adopter pour aborder ce nouveau marché prometteur.
