The visit.
Bringing fresh frozen meals.
She's not safe to use the cooker.
Hasn't been for a few years.
Replenishing medicine
Then prompting to take
Not arguing when she says that she taken them
For the umpteenth time FFS!
Reinstating order where confused chaos reigned
Cat food warming on a radiator:
Cereal and orange peel - again.
Check the fridge
Microwave
Bread bin.
Remove crisps, and yoghurt stored in there still
Secretly clear away empty packaging
To avoid a battle of wills.
Turn back on the sockets -
The TV, the phone.
Make her lunch, then sit with her
So she's not eating alone.
Go through the same circle of conversations
"Have you been swimming? Is it christmas?"
"Are the kids back at school?"
Don't correct her or tell her we've been through this;
She'd get upset if she knew.
Distract when she hears voices
Or see faces in the garden
Talk about other things cos it's safer
Though it's emotionally harder.
Make sure she's comfy,
Tell her you'll see her next time
Bite your tongue when she says
"You don't need to come round to see me,
As you can see, I'm quite fine"
