The US Constitution was built on a win-win paradigm. The Bill of Rights was the Federalists' agreement to the Anti-Federalists in gaining their support to ratify the Constitution in 1791.
So by extension, one would surmise that think win-win would be a fundamental attitude in our society. Nothing can be farther. The paradigm of win-lose is what prevailing in America today. Be it the Democrats versus Republicans, Kansas City Chiefs versus Philadelphia Eagles, Rich versus Poor, everything seems dichotomous.
The W-L paradigm promotes competition instead of collaboration. Notably, President Biden compares the China as our economic competitor and a threat to the American way of life. But in reality China is our third largest trade partner (after Canada and Mexico). The competitiveness is being used as a convenient argument for politicians to sway public opinion to their agenda.
If we want to solve our problems in earnest, we need to ask that what is at heart of our race relation, policing, climate crises etc.? Do our positions have to be in polar opposite? Have we been brainwashed to think W-L? After all, we live on the same planet. Shouldn't collaboration be more appropriate than competition in many if not most of these cases?
How would you think win-win in your personal life?
