The In between is a 2022 science fiction romance film. It was released on February 11th 2022 on Paramount + and on April 8th on Netflix. This movie tells the love story of two high school seniors Tessa (Joey King) and Skylar (Kyle Allen). Tessa is a loner, she pushes people away because she feels that if she lets people get too close to her they will hurt her or abandon her. She has a best friend Shannon and also Tessa is an amazing photographer. One morning, she goes off to take pictures of random things she finds. After her photo shoot session, she goes to a theatre that she loves and she sees a movie.
Tessa was the only one in the theatre until Skylar comes in. They eventually bond over the movie and they begin a romantic relationship after a little while. The summer was almost over and the couple were trying to finalize their plans for college but then they got into a car accident. Skylar died but Tessa survives after the injury to her heart has been treated. Tessa is literally heartbroken and she is not dealing with the loss well. It only proves her fear that loving people and letting people get too close to her always end in sadness and disappointment. She tries to get back to her life but then she begins to sense paranormal activities and she thinks Skylar is trying to communicate with her. Tessa tries to reach back to him with the help of her best friend Shannon and Doris a lady who was also a patient with her at the hospital that writes about ghosts and researches those kinds of topics. Does she succeed or does she end up hurting herself more?
This movie is interesting and unique. The producers use flashbacks to tell the story of Skylar and Tessa's relationship because the movie begins just after the accident. Tessa had childhood trauma that she needed to deal with but she did not instead she shuts people out but in the end she learnt the value of life and to cherish every moment.
