Guillermo Del Torro's Pinocchio is a stop-motion animated version of Pinocchio that was released on December 9th 2022 and is available on Netflix. This version is set in Italy during world war 2. This story is about Gepetto a carpenter in his local village. He had a young son Carlo who died as a result of bombing. Gepetto was heartbroken so one day he cut off a pine tree that grew close to the grave of Carlo and he made a wooden boy from the tree.
A wood sprite saw Gepetto's heartbreak and she decides to bring Pinocchio to life so that he would keep Gepetto company and make him happy. Geppeto sees the wooden boy and is sceptical about him at first but begins to like him eventually. Gepetto because he loved his late son so much that he wants to turn Pinocchio to Carlo but Pinocchio knows that he is his own individual and not Carlo.

In Del Toro's adaptation, the antihero's role as an agent of chaos is celebrated, and he uses his exploits to vigorously study both life and death issues. One cannot but be in awe of the exquisite care that has gone into creating the characters who fill this darkly whimsical world. A lesson on why mortality is both a curse and a blessing is eventually imparted to Pinocchio, who is temporarily incapable of dying, in this beautifully constructed story. There is a reminder that love is a hardship worth bearing, living is an experience worth dying for, and that we may discover pockets of pleasure with others who think and act like us in the cracks of everything that we believe to be misfits. Also, we should learn to accept people as they are. Gepetto wanted Pinocchio to become someone who he was not and that did not turn out right. It is an amazing movie and I recommend it.
