House music in Mzansi was introduced through DJ Fresh and the first album ever known to be dropped as a compilation was still by him in 1998.

And the first house music record producer to take the Song-Of-The-Year title was a Tembisan DJ Sbu in 2006 ,and since then he was followed by other local fellow club record presenters. But DJ Sbu also remains the first house music producer even today,to take a Song-Of-The-Year crown through a remix version, especially of a different genre outside house music, while house music was gaining mainstream popularity it was not a wild imagination that it could one day take the spot after the rein of the late Brenda Fassie and Kwaito, but what was a wild imagination in 2006 around this time of the year was that because DJ Sbu's Remember when it rained, wasn't the original mix but a Pop music genre remix of house originally by an American recording artist Josh Groban in 2003 via his album,Closer; why did DJ Sbu choose that specific record as the first on his album Y-Lens remains unclear but maybe because it was his first album and making remixes of other popular genres was common at the time for local house producers as with his Everything happens for a reason, too,on the same album.

Therefore it seemed almost impossible that it could have been the one taking the crown, leaving Mkgarimbe's Sister Bethina(radio version) and a greater opportunity, but came 00:00 ,DJ Sbu did it in 2006 as we fell into the new year of 2007.

We still miss those days or we should just accept it that times are moving forward, ther's nolonger something called Song-Of-The-Year in Mzansi since SABC has decided to cancel it few years back, now each and every radio is on its own and that indeed cannot be regarded as a credible certification to the Song-Of-The-Year title, the ones won by the likes of DJ Sbu those years, passed a serious test ,that took into account every aspect of the song and its album, the sales and airplay including other popularity spots and lastly the votes across all SABC platforms. So recently, just like tonight,we can just loosely say that the Song Of The Year is the one on Ukhozi FM ,since it is the largest radio station in Mzansi and the world through listernership numbers ,but still we do not know if their number of participants into the voting thing is greater than those of any other local public radios,so yeah for now it is the mess we are faced with,Song-Of-The-Year is all history, maybe in the future something will come up.
