I talked about making vegan biryani on my Quote Of The Day post on Monday and some people asked to share pictures. Originally, I was going to do a WIEIAD post but decided not to since I ate the biryani both times. I also wanted to share the recipe. It wasn't my own and was actually something I saw online. However, she used vegan chicken and I chose to use tofu and veggies instead. We do get vegan chicken in Kenya but I was too lazy to go to the store. Plus, I don't think vegan meat substitutes are healthy so I try to avoid them. I used eggplant, green beans, peas, cauliflower, broccoli and spinach instead. Along with about half a tofu.
Everyone loved the biryani so much. My dad said to make it like once a week. Even my sister who is so picky ate it. My mum didn't have any. But everyone else loved it. I also tried to make a healthy version so I didn't use any fried onions which is a popular biryani topping. And, I just used very little oil to stir fry anything.
I used coconut yogurt which I made at home as a replacement for the dairy yogurt used in biryani. And, I would 10/10 recommend using coconut yogurt even if you are not vegan. And use the home-made one. The store bought one will taste weird in this.
Here is what it looked like when I put it to cook (I definitely used too much garnish):
And this is what it looked like when it was done:
Sorry for the crappy quality I was just too hungry to take good pictures lol!
The Story
Recently, my uncle threw a dinner party since it was his birthday. It was a really big party and lots of my relatives were there including ones I would rather not talk to (which is honestly most of them). There are some "aunties" (my mothers cousin sisters I think) who are absolute gossips. Like they literally have nothing else going on in their life.
Well, they came to talk to us and low-key already fatshamed me but I let that pass. For dinner, I sat with my sister and her friend and after dinner we had the cake cutting. During the cake cutting my sisters friend overheard these aunties say "why is Pooja getting fatter when her sister is the one who eats so much?"
Lol can you believe the audacity of some people. And mind you, these women are FAR from skinny themselves. Now, with where I am in life I don't let things like these effect me. It's just a funny story that gave me content for my blog. However, when I was younger things like this did bother me. It really used to hurt my feelings. And back then I was fatshamed like every 3-5 business days lol. Things like this are what give women eating disorders.
Now, when people say stuff like this and make it their life mission to gossip about others, it says more about them than anyone else. If anyone has ever been gossiped about, just know it's not you. It's them and their sad pathetic lives. They hate themselves so they have to gossip to make themselves feel better.
And to the aunties, I would just like to say:.
Oh and here's are some cute pictures of me and my fat self! I went to an art gallery in Village Market and loved it. The art was incredible. African artists are really outdoing themselves these days. Anyway, I loved the outfit, had a great day and ate two burgers for dinner because who gives a damn about my weight. I would much rather be happy, something they will never be. Anyway, here are the pictures:
Have you ever been fatshamed? And have you ever been gossiped about? Have you tried vegan biryani before? Let me know in the comments below!
