Galatians 1:10 – "Obviously, I'm not trying to win the approval of people, but of God. If pleasing people were my goal, I would not be Christ's servant."
From time to time during my life, I've considered the possibility of running for some form of political office. But I usually come back to my distaste for popularity competition. Looking at such things as polls to determine how much of the crowd likes me and how much of the crowd doesn't… yuck! I often think it concerns me that it could sway my decisions and opinions.
Most of us like to be liked. We want to be accepted by others. We want to believe there is a positive opinion flowing around us from others about who we are as a person. It's very easy to get caught up in too much concern over how others approve of us.
But as Believers we are not to seek the approval of people around us. Rather, we are to seek to be servants of God. Your conduct and daily decisions should be sensitive to the people around you. But at the same time, the reason that we are sensitive to others is to set a stage to allow us to deliver a message of Good News.
Which brings you back to the approval of God. So, then how do we find the approval of God? By simply following His Word. Being led in the Spirit in obedience to His commands. By planting seeds of Salvation into the hearts of people that are around you.
Ultimately, know this: If you have given your heart to Jesus Christ, you have His approval. You are His forever.
