No spiritual devotionals have been written since August 14, 2022. God has had me on and off planes. Normally when I am out of town the devotionals still happen. This time He told me not to. However travel articles have been written almost every day since I have been gone.
My first flight was to California with my dad, husband, and my nephew. This was a vacation to visit family. My mom's older sister moved there, had ten children, and established a large family line there. We had not been there since 2019 due to the pandemic. My dad will be ninety in December. Since many of the Californians will be unable to attend his celebration, they planned a surprise early birthday party for him. He was shocked and thrilled from the Cali love. While there we drove to Los Angeles, Fresno, and Oakland. It was a full yet unstressful experience.
My second flight was to Colorado. On August 31st I arrived home form California on the red eye at 6:00 a.m. By 4:45 p.m. the same day I was on a flight back to the west. This trip was for a Stress Protest retreat in the Rocky Mountains. Here I rested and hiked with other Girl Trekkers at altitudes as high as 8,610 feet. God must have known I needed rest.
My third flight was two days after returning from California. This was an international flight to London. I landed around 10 a.m. on September 7. By that same afternoon The Queen was dead. I am sitting now on the balcony of a new friend from church typing this. Three nights I stayed in a hotel near The London International Church of Christ's 40th Anniversary Celebration at the Friends House. Three nights I am staying in the apartment of a church member. It is too expensive to stay in a hotel for the whole time I am here. Worship and sightseeing have happened during the first three nights. The remaining nights have not been decided. God will show me the way. I know it will be good.
Only one of these flights involved long range planning. The last two were unexpected and became part of my itinerary shortly before they happened. Thanks only to God's direction I am doing/have done what is crazy. Three time zone changes, separation from my husband, change in my work schedule with teens learning to drive, limited budget, and traveling alone (with God) has been my new norm for three weeks.
When God says go there is no other option. How ready are we to go despite the sacrifices needed to do it?
"Then he called the crowd to him along with his disciples and said: "Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me." Mark 8:24 (NIV).
