Ephesians 6:10-11 – "A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on all of God's armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil."
I like watching movies about gladiators. I am especially interested in watching and looking at the various armors they would wear. Some of them look so heavy, you wonder how they could even function. But of course, to some extent, it is fictional television and movies for us.
At the time Paul was writing this letter to the Ephesians, they had a much different perspective. It was during a time that the subject matter of armor and gladiators was well known and familiar. They recognized that for a soldier or gladiator to function, he needed a certain set of armor and weapons to do battle.
Therefore, the analogy was perfect that Paul used to describe various parts of armor and weapons that we as Christians need to adorn ourselves for service: A belt of truth. Body armor of righteousness. Shoes of peace. A shield of faith. A helmet of salvation. A sword of the Spirit. All strengthened by the power of prayer. All of these things are necessary elements to take with us on a daily basis in order to win.
The devil is not walking away from us just because we have been born again. He continues to do battle in the spiritual realm that we journey through.
It's so easy to get up as I did this morning, run to the shower, put on my clothes, make my cup of tea, then make my way to the car with Sesena by my side. But as children of God, we are more than physical drones. We are the ultimate spiritual warriors.
Today, be ready for the fight. Don't forget the armor that God has provided you to battle.
