TOPIC: PRAYING IN FAITH II
TEXT: MARK 11:23
For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. KJV
With faith as the foundation and necessary requirement in prayer, we see doubt again showing forth as a major hindrance. While you pray, beyond the petition and words declared is the ability to trust that whatever you said as a desire to God will be fulfilled. This tenacity and absolute trust that God hear and will answer is very important.
Then we should begin to ask ourselves certain questions. How do I pray? What are my intentions when I pray? For what purpose or reason do I pray? What kind of prayer am I praying? And what are my expectations as I pray?
Some of these questions have been answered in the course of this study but we will address the question for what purpose or reason do I pray?
When Jesus spoke words to the fig tree, He expected that the fig tree must wither. So, while He made the declaration, He saw a withered fig tree with His eyes of faith. This is a very important lesson and aspect of prayer that we should cultivate as followers of Christ. The ability to see by faith while praying. This will shape the reason and purpose of your prayer. Such that, your purpose is matched with the picture in your heart. Then, it becomes impossible for doubt to set in because you have married the purpose of your praying with the expected result in your heart. This is referred to as Your mind stayed on God.
Just like Elijah, who prayed earnestly for rain. His purpose was clear from the beginning, He wanted it to rain and with this intention, he prayed. It is vivid that the man of God had already pictured a massive outpour which sustained his ability to contend in prayer. He asked his servant to keep checking till there was a handful of cloud; with this result, He knew that his purpose or intention had met with the exact picture in his heart. Thus, there is an answered prayer. (1Kings 18:41-46)
I think you should employ this in your prayer life. Have an expectation, understand the purpose for your prayer, marry it with the exact picture which is the result and contend in God's righteousness and faithfulness to give answer to your request. Doubt is conquered!
PRAYER
Thank you Father. I receive revelation, wisdom and understanding in praying. There is a drastic change to my praying as I pray with expectation without doubt, knowing that God answers prayers in Jesus' name. Amen
