This morning I am drawn to the things that tempt us. I realize that the real battle field is in the mind. As a former porn addict I used to dwell on these pictures and soon found that there are triggers. Identifying the triggers and clearing them is key to avoiding temptations and addictions.
No one ever just wakes up with a porn addiction. It starts with something small like a sexy photo in an advertisement. Then that one photo is not enough, and you start to look for something more on social media. Then you might start searching the internet. Then it starts to become more frequent, until it's all you think about.
This is why the Bible talks about guarding our heart. We can't let anything into our hearts that would influence us. Think about all the media you consume. Putting the wrong liquid into the gas tank is harmful to the car. In the same way, we also need to be careful of what we put into our own lives. What we put into our lives will influence us. What movies are you watching? What music are you listening to? What games are you playing ? It might start out as something small, but it can grow until it becomes a problem.
So many of us are tempted to do things that we know are not good for us. We maybe tempted to cheat on an exam, tempted to have sex, or tempted to lie. However, we must remember that any temptation may seem good in the moment, but it will eventually hurt you. Remember the hook one uses to hook a worm to bait fish, that's how temptation works. See the bait and hook and walk away. The longer you indulge the hook the sooner you're baited and hooked.
So even within our relationships there will always be temptations. Remember the hook and it will keep you from the fall. Never think you are strong enough. For me when I start listening too much to certain types of music I feel the red flags climbing so I have trained myself to detox and stay off no matter how I wish to enjoy such music. I also avoid environments where I can be tempted or hook. Never ever assume you have grown beyond addictions. I was very addicted to porn and flirting and it almost destroyed my home. Now, we are helping folk get healing. Tomorrow I will tell you how I had to fight to get my home back and my one true love. I pray for all who are facing temptations now and those who are hooked that the Lord recovers you now in the mighty name of Jesus! Amen and Amen!
