Finding Me is a memoir of a powerhouse, Viola Davis, and her journey of finding what defines her and who she truly is. She takes us through her childhood, the trauma around the place she called home and her constant battle with what society threw at her to the peak of her career as an actor.
The ending of the book was a turnaround for me. And I quote, "Every painful memory, every mentor, every friend and foe served as a chisel, a leap pad that has shaped me...I own everything that has ever happened to me." It left me with this question: Am I owning every part of my story and how it shaped me?
I loved how this book took me to an emotional corner and empowered me to find myself and to ask myself again and again 'Who I am', 'What's my story', 'Where did it begin?'
This book is a true definition of how everything that happens in life is always a journey.
My favourite quotes from the memoir:
• May you live long enough to know why you were born ( Cherokee Birth Blessing) • If you want to identify me, ask me not where I live, or what I like to eat, or how I comb my hair, but ask me what I am living for, in detail, ask me what I think is keeping me from living fully for the thing I want to live for. ( Thomas Merton)
