Rajnath Singh approve third positive indigenisation list

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh approved the ongoing third positive indigenisation list to minimise the import of defence equipment and promote Indian industries and design units under the mission of Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan. The third positive indigenisation list contains 780 strategically important line replacement units(LRUs),assemblies,sub systems,sub assemblies, components. Furthermore this list includes 2,500 items which have been indigenised and 458 items are also there which will be indigenised in a specific timeline according to the Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.

It reduces the burden on the economy to import defence equipment by Defence Public Sector Undertakings, from other countries and promotes self dependency of the country in the defence sector.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh further described the process of this indigenisation of defence equipment. It will be taken up through the different routes that come under the ambitious Make category.

What is the 'Make' category?

It comes under the prestigious 'Make in India ' campaign. There are a total of three lists under this scheme. The segregation of this scheme is such as below:

Make 1-

The projects which come under this list are center funded. There are 4 army projects under this scheme - Indian light tanks, TESD, TCS, FICV.

Make 2-

Under this scheme the projects which deal with manufacturing of prototypes, systems,subsystems come.

Make 3-

It is similar to the Make 2 scheme and deals with the production of prototypes, systems and subsystems.

Importance:

The indigenisation of defence equipment make the country self dependent and contribute towards the GDP growth and minimise the dependence of import of DPSUs. Furthermore it will also help to the growth of the domestic industries and technology and upgrade the position of India as a self reliant country in the defence manufacturing sector.

In March , the Defence Minister, Rajnath Singh,also approved the indigenisation of 107 defence equipment including strategically important line units within the timeline.

This scheme will harness the capability of indigenous solutions of defence equipment production and boost the growth of domestic design production units and further help the economy and make India a superpower nation.
