The First Ever Female Director-general Of CSIR

The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research has recently appointed Ms.Nallathamby Kalaiselvi as its first ever female Director general. In the history of 80 years, the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research has now gotten its female Director general. Before this appointment no one female person had become the Director general of CSIR. It is the first time that a director of CECRI has become the Director general of CSIR.

Previous Position:

Ms. N. Kalaiselvi is currently working as a director of Central Electrochemical Research Institute under CSIR. She is an Ph.D.holder and did research over 25 years on the topics of developing electrode materials and electrochemical power systems, optimising reaction parameters, custom design synthesis method and electrochemical evaluation. 

Research works:

She has also done research on lithium batteries and beyond lithium batteries. She has done great work and research on the methods of waste to wealth driven electrodes. She was known as a "lithium battery expert" in her academics.

She has also helped in India's vision of electrical vehicles and increasing the mobility of electric vehicles around the country. Now India has 1.4mn electric vehicles.

Background:

She was born and brought up at Ambasamudram village in Tirunelveli district of Tamil Nadu. She did her schooling in a Tamil medium school in her own district. For higher education she went to Annamalai University in Chidambaram and pursued a Ph.D. degree.

After completing her education and research she was appointed as a director of Central Electrochemical Research Institute (CECRI) in 2019. This year the Central Electrochemical Research Institute is going to celebrate its platinum jubilee with this great achievement that a director from CECRI has gotten the top position of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research. 

About FAME

It is one of the aspiring projects of India in the field of Electrical vehicles. The full form of FAME is Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric vehicles in India. In this programme India has decided that it will invest around 10,000 cr for the development and manufacturing of electric vehicles and make India a energy efficient country.
