Read 277.) Zechariah 9:1 thru 14:21. After the second temple was constructed, Zechariah continued in service unto the Lord as a prophet for about 56 more years, unto about 460 BC. What did the Lord give unto him to tell us? Much, as we will see! Chapter 9 opens, verses 1 thru 7a, as a pronouncement of judgment against Syria to the north and east, Tyre and Sidon to the north and west on the Med, and then Ashkelon, Gaza, Ekron, and Ashdod to the south and west, also by the Med. But, beginning with the second half of 7 and verse 8; These sure do read like a prophecy pertaining to the end of the Tribulation, and beginning of the Millennium, when Christ returns to save a remnant of Israel and establish His Kingdom on the earth. Verse 9 most certainly goes the Christ's first coming and His Triumphal Entry into Jerusalem, recorded in all 4 Gospel accounts, and quoted by Matthew and John. Verses 10 thru 17 speak to the time of the Millennium, and Christ's rule, with verse 16 going to the very day of Christ's Return, saving a Jewish remnant from annihilation. Chapter 10 continues in this same vein. Especially, beginning with verse 3. The chapter speaks to how things are going to be under King Jesus during the Millennium of His reign! He is of Judah, as is stated, and He will incredibly restore Israel. Chapter 11 amazes. It is an account of the Lord's dealings with Israel throughout her history, and how He turned Israel over to her oppressors for their unfaithfulness, but then, with verses 12+13, you just know it goes to Judas' betrayal of Jesus. It was planted here by God, so that with 20/20 hindsight, it could be discovered later, and noted in the Gospels! The Lord had foretold Jesus' betrayal, to the very amount of silver, and even its end use!
Chapter 12 is all in the future! It is entirely of the Tribulation and the Millennium! It goes to Jerusalem, and her final days in the Tribulation, when all the world seeks her destruction. That day is coming! Jerusalem makes the news a lot these days, doesn't it? Verses 3 thru 9 go to the very end of the Tribulation, when the nations are taking out Israel. On that Day, Jesus Returns! Then, with verse 10, the surviving remnant of Israel will be saved! This scene of Israel's salvation continues right into chapter 13. Then see 13:7! Jesus used these very words of Himself in Matthew 26 and Mark 14. He is that shepherd! Verses 8 and 9 close the chapter to say that only 1/3 of Israel will be spared and saved in the end. Chapter 14 keeps on giving! It is this same event, Jerusalem's annihilation, and Jesus' return. Verse 4 relates directly to Acts 1:10-12! Verses 8 thru 11 are of the joys of the Millennium, and with verse 12, we go right back to the day of His Return for Israel. But, with verse 16, we come back to the Millennium again, until the end of the chapter and book. Note, that even in the Millennium, there will not be complete peace and harmony yet, as there will still be those in need of judgment and discipline. See Revelation 20:7-10 to learn how the Millennium comes to its end! Through all this, Zechariah saw Jesus!!! It's what the book is all about!
