Google has successfully launched its popular and long awaiting feature 'Street View' in India. Google failed to bring this feature to India at least twice in the past decade due to the security concerns from government of India and its security agencies over collection of data.

National Geospatial Policy 2021:

Google has signed partnership with two Indian firms to complete the launch of this new feature called 'Street View'. These two Indian firms are mapping solutions provider Genesys International and Tech Mahindra.

Indian government has built a National Geospatial Policy, 2021 in which it is stated that local companies are allowed to collect such data and foreign firms can license the data from Indian entities to render their customers in the country.

1st time in the world:

As the Google has launched a new feature 'Street View', India becomes the first country in the world to have this kind of feature. This new feature will render users to view panoramic and street-level 360 degree views of a particular place which is being brought to life completely by local partners.

Street View will be available on Google Maps with fresh imagery licensed from local partners that will covered over 1,50,000 km across ten cities in India. These ten cities are Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Pune, Nashik, Vadodara, Ahmednagar, and Amritsar.

Google, Genesys International, and Tech Mahindra have a goal to expand the facility to 50 cities by the end of 2022, and cover around one million unique kms over the 18-24 months.

Benefits of the street view:

Street View will help people on navigating and exploring new corners of the country.

The world can be more visual and accurate way after enabling them to fully experience about likings to be in those places, right from their phone or computer.

Google has also made partnerships with local traffic authorities which will ease traffic and improve road safety.

Google Maps will now show speed limits data shared by the traffic authorities, starting with Bengaluru.

Traffic authorities and aggregators across eight cities like Delhi, Hyderabad, Chandigarh, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Gurgaon, Bangalore, and Agra have also been partnered by Google that will help with information related to congestion zones, road closures etc.
