I love the bright colors of different fruits when making a fruit bowl for myself.
It makes eating tastier and pleasing to my eyes too.
Lil Red Dot does not have natural resources such as land to grow fruits. Also our climate is too hot for berries to thrive unless grown in a climate controlled vertical farm. But the volume produced is grossly insufficient and so, Lil Red Dot imports fruits from all over the world.
For tropical fruits like paw paws, durians, mangosteen, mangoes, chikus, dukus, langsats, dragonfruits and starfruits for example, these would be imported from Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia and even Thailand.
For berries like rasperries, blueberries, blackberries, these would be imported from USA, Australia, New Zealand and Spain.
Grapes that come from Japan, South Korea and China have distinct breeds e.g. Muscat and not generic Thomson table seedless grapes. Such grapes cost $8.50 to $14.00 for 500gm.
I was pleasantly surprised to see pomengrates, blackberries and golden dragon fruits from Spain, Mexico and Argentina.
It can be safely said that with money, one can buy the most unique of fruits or humblest of fruits in Singapore (I fondly call, Lil Red Dot)
Tomorrow I get back to the grind after a hiatus of 6 months and I wonder what "mistakes" I would make or face new demons in my continued journey as a minion.
All I hope is to make through each work day, for my wounds to heal and no lingering spinal pain.
Times change, the world changes...inflation is a fact!
