What do college students need money for?
In general, financial aid is intended to cover tuition, room and board, textbooks, transportation, and mandatory fees. Usually, it doesn't pay for extras, like entertainment, dining out, club memberships, or other non-essential expenses. Even for the most frugal student, unexpected costs can pop up.
How many bras do you need for college?
3+ Bras – I'd recommend at least 3 everyday bras, in addition to some sports bras depending on how active you are. 15+ Socks – Again, variety is key. Pack a few pairs (or more) of warm socks if you're heading somewhere known to be cold.
What should you wear to college everyday?
Load up on jeans, t-shirts, button down shirts, sweatshirts, and outerwear such as utility jackets and denim jackets. Also, don't forget to pair your college outfit with stylish sneakers and backpacks or over-sized handbags, to fit all your daily essentials.
How early should I pack for college?
Ideally you should start about two weeks before you move into your dorm or apartment. This will give you more than enough preparation time to find what you need without the last-minute stress. It'll also give you plenty of time to go shopping for anything you don't already have
Is there a dress code in college?
Most colleges have a very casual dress code, so students can often wear whatever clothing style they prefer. While a few colleges have strict requirements for students' attire, many are much more lenient. College dress codes vary with the campus area, type of occasion, and student's field of study.
Off to college
As your high school graduate prepares to make the move from home to dorm, keep this checklist of college essentials handy.
What should I bring to college my freshman year?
While these are pretty easy to get on or around most college campuses, they're still something to consider bringing along when you first move in. ... School supplies

Restaurants – 99%
Beauty – 76%
Fashion – 70%
Electronics – 60%
Live music – 59%
Media – 57%
Gyms and fitness – 38%

Do I need a laptop for college?
Every student needs a laptop for college, but unlike inexpensive school supplies, such as pens and paper, laptops are long-term investments. Spending some time researching laptops can help you figure out what type of device will work best for your courses and what you can afford

Aloe Vera (Aloe vera)
Aloe vera plants are technically succulents but deserve a mention of their own. These attractive plants grow vigorously with very little maintenance.
Light: Bright, indirect light

Peace Lily
Peace lilies are an old favorite for their glossy dark green leaves and unusual white spoon-shaped flowers. They will tolerate low light but prefer moderate to bright, indirect light in order to bloom. Keep yours slightly moist.
African Violet
These cheerful little plants with fuzzy leaves bloom almost continuously in the right conditions. They need bright, indirect light. Give them a drink when the soil feels slightly dry to the touch and water from the bottom (set the pot in water and let soak for 30 minutes) or the top, but don't get water on the leaves to prevent spotting.

Can You Bring Small Pets To College?
Most colleges do not allow cats and dogs.
Dorms are more lenient about small animals, like fish and hamsters.
Some colleges only allow animals on certain housing facilities.
Other colleges even partner with local shelters to allow students to shelter pets.
Is it a good idea to get a pet in college?
According to a 2017 report by the American College Health Association, college students report high rates of stress, loneliness, anxiety and depression. Studies have shown that pets can increase people's levels of oxytocin, a hormone that reduces anxiety and lowers blood pressure, by 300 percent.

Can You Have a Pet in a College Dorm?
College students living in dorms often want pets. But can you bring a pet to your dorm? It depends on the pet and the school. At most dorms, your pet options are limited to animals like fish. Many dorms also allow small caged animals like hamsters.
Make sure to carefully review the pet policies before you show up on campus. And keep in mind that restrictions on pets do not apply to service animals
Turtles- Turtles usually require small and medium-sized aquariums and do not need to be fed as often. You don't need to take them for a walk, but you can let them wander around your place. And you don't have to worry about walking your turtle, which is another plus.
Hedgehog- Hedgehogs are as adorable as they come, despite their thorns. Due to the slow progress and gameplay, your hedgehog will become a faithful and loving companion.
Guinea pig - Guinea pigs, also known as guinea pigs, are rodent species belonging to the Caviidae family and the genus Cavia. Guinea pigs are great pets for students because they have many exceptional qualities. They are small, characteristic, and tender. Students may not have much time to take care of pets. Guinea pigs are great pets for students because they are hardy. With proper feeding, guinea pigs are very healthy animals. Because guinea pigs come from cool climates, they live well indoors and thrive in dormitories.
Bunnies - Bunnie's small mammals of the order Lagomorpha. Unlike some pets, rabbits do not need a lot of space and they will be comfortable in a cage. Rabbits are clean, easy to the toilet, and very affectionate, which makes them great pets for college students.
Living in a dormitory with other students, they are quiet: The student does not want to have a noisy animal that can cause noise. Rabbits are quiet and will not cause trouble for your roommates.
Cats- Cats are ideal pets for students only if the college allows students to keep them in dormitories. A college student may also have a cat if he lives in dormitories off campus where they are free. Cats are quiet, and you don't have to worry about disturbing other students in the dorm room. The cat will not make noise and prevent you from concentrating on learning.
Tarantulas-Tarantula also has a budget diet that is ideal for students who have other things to pay for. They may even survive for weeks without food, but it is best to feed them once a week or so.

1 teaspoon dry ground mustard optional
2 teaspoons garlic powder

1 cup extra-sharp cheddar cheese freshly grated plus more for topping
3/4 cup mozzarella cheese freshly grated
6 ounces cream cheese can use more mozzarella or Provolone if desired
1/2 cup toasted panko style breadcrumbs
chopped fresh parsley for garnish
Instructions
Fill a large heavy-bottomed (oven-safe if broiling) pot to a boil on the stove. Add in pasta and cook for about 6 minutes or until just al dente. Drain and set aside.
Bring the same pot back to the stove on medium low heat, melt butter and whisk in flour creating a roux. Whisk constantly, until a smooth slurry forms - about 1 -2 minutes. Slowly pour in milk and continue to whisk until smooth and creamy.
Whisk in nutmeg, mustard, garlic powder, salt, pepper, and cayenne pepper. Add pumpkin and cheeses and stir until sauce forms and thickens. Taste and adjust seasonings with salt or black pepper as needed.
Once cheese sauce is smooth, add the cooked macaroni and toss to coat. Remove from heat.
Add more milk or cheese as needed for the consistency desired. Sprinkle with reserved cheese, chopped parsley and toasted panko crumbs. For an extra crunchy-topping, place (oven-safe pot) under the broiler for 2 minutes. (You an also cover with foil and bake in a preheated 350 F oven for 20 minutes).
Plate and serve hot.
Recipe Notes
Recipe is best warm and fresh, but will keep airtight in the fridge for up to 5 days or in the freezer for 3 months. Reheat on low heat prior to serving leftovers so cheese doesn't separate and add milk as needed to desired creamy consistency.

The Best Oven Baked Tacos
yield: 15 TACOS
prep time: 10 MINUTES
cook time: 25 MINUTES
total time: 35 MINUTES
Ingredients
Taco Meat
1 lb Ground Beef, 96/4
1 medium (200g) Yellow Onion, diced
5 cloves (25g) Garlic, minced
2 tsp Paprika
1/2 tsp Kosher Salt (or 1/4 tsp table salt)
1/2 tsp Black Pepper
1/2 tsp Cumin
1/2 tsp Crushed Chipotle Pepper
1/2 C (120g) Enchilada Sauce (I used Trader Joe's)
Oven Baked Tacos
15 Extra Thin Corn Tortillas (I used Mission)
1 C (112g) Finely Shredded Mozzarella (or your choice of cheese)
1/2 C (56g) Finely Shredded Reduced Fat Cheddar
Instructions
Cooking the Taco Meat
Dice the onion and mince the garlic before adding to a large skillet with the ground beef over medium-high heat.
Cook until no pink remains in the beef. While it cooks, mix the dry spices for the taco meat. Add them towards the end of cooking. Stir well.
Reduce the heat and add the enchilada sauce, stirring everything together until the sauce thickens. Remove from the heat.
Assembling the Oven Baked Tacos
Preheat an oven to 400F.
Wrap the tortillas in a slightly damp paper towel and microwave for 45-60 seconds, flipping halfway through. This will make the tortillas easier to fold. Place the warmed tortillas on a large wire rack or baking sheet. (If you have trouble folding or the tortillas crack when folding, heat them a bit longer.)
Place a generous pinch of cheese on one half of each tortilla. Follow the cheese with the beef and another pinch of cheese. Fold the tortillas in half, pressing down gently to seal. (Be careful to not press too hard and squeeze the beef/cheese out of the tacos.)
Spray the tops of the tacos with a bit of cooking spray and place a baking sheet on top of them to prevent the tacos from opening during baking.
Bake for 14-18 minutes or until the tacos are golden brown and crisp. Be sure to check on them during baking as the extra thin tortillas can burn quickly. (Using a baking sheet on the bottom instead of a wire rack may extend the bake time. If you have trouble getting the tacos crispy, you can remove the top baking sheet after a few minutes once the tacos have sealed to speed up the process.)
Notes
Each taco has 3 Smart Points.
You can swap the mozzarella and cheddar for monterey jack or another melty cheese. Since the base recipe is extra cheesy, you could reduce the cheese to save a few calories, too.
If you use a fattier meat, be sure to drain some of the fat before adding the spice and enchilada sauce to prevent soggy tortillas or runoff during baking.
To reheat, air fry or bake at 400F for 3-5 minutes. Time may vary based on how many tacos you're reheating at once.
Troubleshooting cracked tortillas:
Microwave a bit longer before assembling and only microwave right before assembling.
Don't add a piping hot beef mixture.
Avoid overfilling

California Rolls
YIELDS:4 SERVINGS
PREP TIME:0 HOURS 15 MINS
TOTAL TIME:1 HOUR 45 MINS
INGREDIENTS
1 c. sushi rice
1 1/2 tbsp. rice vinegar
1 tbsp.granulated sugar
1 1/2 tsp. kosher salt
1 c. water
4 sheets nori
1 hot house cucumber, seeded and thinly sliced into long strips
1 small avocado, thinly sliced
4 sticks imitation crab meat, sliced in half lengthwise
3 tbsp. toasted sesame seeds
Soy sauce, for serving
DIRECTIONS
Wash rice several times in large bowl with cold water until water runs almost clear. Drain rice very well.
In a small bowl, whisk together vinegar, sugar, and salt until sugar is dissolved. Reserve until ready to use.
In a medium sauce pan over medium-high heat, add rice and 1 cup water, cover, and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low and let simmer, covered, about 30 minutes or until water is absorbed. Remove from heat and let stand, covered, for 10 minutes.
Transfer rice to a large, non-metallic, flat-bottomed bowl. Using a plastic spatula, repeatedly slice through rice at a sharp angle to break up lumps and separate grains while very gradually pouring in vinegar mixture. Cover seasoned rice with a damp cloth until ready to use.
Place one nori sheet, shiny-side down, lengthwise across a clean, dry cutting board. Dip fingers of one hand into a bowl of water and shake off excess. Pick up one-fourth of the rice and place across the center of the nori sheet. Spread rice evenly across the nori, leaving a 1" strip of nori on the top side uncovered.
Place bamboo mat on top of rice and with the help of your cutting board, flip it, so that the nori is facing you. Place one-fourth of the cucumber, the avocado, and and the crab in an even row across center of nori, making sure the filling extends to both ends of the surface lengthwise.
Starting with edge closest to you, pick up mat using thumb and index fingers of both hands; use remaining fingers to hold the filling in place as you roll mat forward and away from you. Roll forward, pressing gently but firmly.
Working quickly, repeat to make a total of four rolls. Roll each in sesame seeds and slice into 8 pieces. Serve immediately with soy sauce.
