Mark 1:16-20 – One day as Jesus was walking along the shore of the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew throwing a net into the water, for they fished for a living. Jesus called out to them, "Come, follow me, and I will show you how to fish for people!" And they left their nets at once and followed him. A little farther up the shore Jesus saw Zebedee's sons, James and John, in a boat repairing their nets. He called them at once, and they also followed him, leaving their father, Zebedee, in the boat with the hired men.
When most of us think of Christ calling to us, we think of the day God called us to become a believer. The day we became born again. But so few hear Christ call them after the day they become saved.
I am afraid most believe that it is only when Christ calls for some to become ministers of the Gospel. How else would we get pastors? But there are so many more of us that unfortunately miss calls in our life from Christ.
So, why do so many miss the calls from Christ in their lives? Most often, it can be described as a failure to turn on their phone ringers. Or maybe it's better to describe as their heart ringers.
For the individual who walks through life listening, looking, and talking to God on a daily basis, their ringer is on. For those who walk in their own self-centered path, they are not listening. Therefore, they do not hear when Christ speaks.
Today, for all who accept Christ, there is an abundant life that is offered. But there is still a choice each believer makes, every day. Will I follow, speak, and listen today, or will I walk in my way that satisfies what is required by work, school, and life? The latter will probably miss the most abundant life. Simply because even when Christ speaks, they do not hear.
Remember, this is one day at a time. There are no weekends or holidays off. You can do it. Christ has plans with and for you.
