Introduction – World Hypertension Day is celebrated every year on May 17 to spread awareness about hypertension and its symptoms. high blood pressure or hypertension occurs when the blood pressure rises to an unhealthy level of 140/90 and is considered touch to be a dangerous level when the blood pressure rises over 180/120.

Now, high blood pressure is one of the common reasons for heart problems with premature death across the world. Obesity, sedentary lifestyle, high stress, and poor dietary habits are some of the main causes of high blood pressure or hypertension in younger people all around the world. But if high blood pressure occurs for a long period, then it may increase the risk of several medical issues including heart failure or stroke, chronic kidney disease, and many more.

History – World Hypertension League, an organization of 85 national hypertension societies observed the first World Hypertension Day on May 14, 2015. The main aim of this organization is to spread awareness about the main cause of high blood pressure with its symptoms and the prevention methods to reduce hypertension across the world. After this year, this global day was celebrated on May 17.

Theme – The theme of this international day in the year 2022 is 'Measure Your Blood Pressure Accurately, Control it, Live Longer' which concentrated on reducing blood pressure levels to live longer.

Significance – Now high blood pressure is a common disease that causes several heart problems including heart attack or stroke and many more complications in people across the world. This day concentrates on how to reduce high blood pressure that avoids several cardiovascular problems and chronic kidney disease. The main goal of this day is to spread awareness about the symptoms of hypertension and how to reduce it. High tension or stress, and obesity are the main causes of high blood pressure in people all around the world.
