John 1:5 – "The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it."
As a small child, I was probably afraid of many things. One of the greatest was the darkness. I was scared to death to sleep in the dark. And a simple night light was not nearly enough to dispel my fear. I would sleep with as many lights as I could reach to be on in my room.
My mom and dad would often ask, "What are you afraid of?"
I really couldn't answer their question. I just knew that I was afraid because something might be in the darkness that I couldn't see. And it may get me.
The Bible indicates there are forces that are visible and invisible. Some of those forces are evil.
On some level, I think everyone has a certain apprehension and fear of the things that they cannot see. For most of us, thinking about what is in the future creates some of that same fear. The same kind of fear that a child may have when they do not know what exists in the darkness.
The Bible tells us that Jesus is the Light of the World. Yes, the light that shines in the darkness is Jesus Christ. Our promise is that the darkness will never be capable of putting out that light.
That's something that you can hold fast to in the darkness of the world. Yes, He is a night light you can claim as your own.
