Read 227.) Jeremiah 51:59 and 50:1-40. Jeremiah has a hand-delivered message to go with the exiles to Babylon, about Babylon. It would seem to have been a very risky thing to do, had it been discovered and given to Nebuchadnezzar, but Jeremiah had been promised protection by the Lord from the very beginning, and no doubt this message was also given at the Lord's direction, so as we say here, "No worries!" 51:59 tells us how this message got to Babylon. Chapter 51 relates its contents. As this was when Zedekiah was king, and in the 4th year of his reign, we place this at 593 BC.
Chapter 50 is all about Babylon and the Lord's plan for her. What did He have in mind? It is a message of Babylon's own future destruction, which unknown to her, will take place in 539, just 54 more years away. Yeh, this message would get Jeremiah killed for certain! With verses 4 and 5, the Lord tells Jeremiah some details as they pertain to the future fulfillment of The 6th Promise and Prophecy concerning ancient Israel. She would not only be permitted to return and to restore the nation back in her Promised Land, but at the very time that she would do so, it would be of a surviving remnant that was truly coming back to the Lord in repentance and faith!
Against Babylon, Jeremiah explains how that the next empire, which will be of the Medes and the Persians, will come for her. And note the prophecy that she will no longer be inhabited! That came true. Her ruins were only discovered under the sands in the late 1800's. Note verses 19 and 20 as these are Millennial promises to a restored Israel in the End Times.
Keep reading. What do you see? Nothing but doom for Babylon! This message could not get into Babylonian hands, though it was sent there by Jeremiah! What a risk, what a chance he took! Verse 39 says it again, she will never even be inhabited again! This prophecy of Babylon, sent to Babylon by Jeremiah, will continue on through the entire next reading. In it we will see another couple of truly amazing matters of prophecy, but I will not give them away yet here. What they do say is that the Lord God of Israel is the One True and Living God, and all will bow the knee to Him. Do it now in all faith and full repentance and submit yourself unto Him. Believe on His Son and be saved! It's what the Book is all about!
