International Museums Day

May 18 is observed annually as the International Museum Day. International Museum Day had been declared in 1977 by the International Council of Museum (ICOM).
Theme of the year:
The theme for the year 2022 is "The Power of Museums".
In 2022, the International Council of Museum (ICOM) desires to look at the museums through "three lenses" that would talk about the potential museums hold to "bring about positive change in communities".
The three lenses are: The Power of Achieving Sustainability, The Power of Community Building Through Education and The Power of Innovating on Digitalization and Accessibility.
Importance of Museums in Human life:
According to the International Council of Museums, Museums contain the power to transform the world around us. As incomparable places of discovery, there are two essential steps in building a better future one is they teach us about our past and second one is it open up our minds to new ideas.
Museums not only get us more concerned in things we already know but also tell us full story about things that we might have never aware about it. Museums are an important part of human heritage as it provides one of the best places to flourish knowledge.
Famous museums in the world:
National Museum in Delhi, Louvre Museum in Paris, The British Museum in London and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York are some of the famous museums in the world.
According to the ICOM website, International Museum Day was celebrated at more than 37,000 museums in around 158 countries last year.
Celebrations in India:
In India, the National Museum in Delhi has projected several activities to celebrate the occasion. Teachers' training workshop in collaboration with various organizations is planned for May 18. Moreover, a meet of museum educators from central and state government museums is also organized for the day.
