L'école numérique ce n'est pas seulement des ordinateurs. Encore faut-il repenser les méthodes pédagogiques. Le point de vue d'André Willekens, Dell Technologies.
L'école numérique s'est naturellement imposée dans la foulée de la crise sanitaire. L'enseignement à distance est devenu la norme. « Même si les enfants sont de retour en classe, la technologie est désormais un des piliers de l'éducation ». Tel est l'avis d'André Willekens, Regional Sales Director Belux, Dell Technologies
En Flandre, par exemple, le gouvernement a débloqué des budgets importants pour le « Digisprong ». Ce projet vise à donner aux écoles un coup de pouce financier pour numériser l'apprentissage, par exemple via l'achat d'ordinateurs portables pour les élèves. En Wallonie aussi, la demande d'initiatives numériques dans l'enseignement est de plus en plus forte. Ainsi, en 2019, avant que la pandémie n'éclate, la Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles a mis à jour sa stratégie numérique pour l'éducation. Une chose est sûre : il n'y aura pas de retour en arrière.
Culture numérique : mieux construire sur des bases solides
Une analyse de la migration numérique dans le secteur mondial de l'éducation au cours de l'année écoulée montre que 94 % des établissements d'enseignement disposent aujourd'hui d'une politique pour au moins une forme d'apprentissage à distance[1]. Il est dès lors essentiel de s'appuyer sur les leçons déjà tirées pour améliorer l'expérience d'apprentissage, les possibilités d'éducation et les résultats des élèves. « Des principes tels que la connectivité, l'accessibilité et une culture de l'inclusion numérique sont essentiels, estime André Willekens. Ce n'est qu'en agissant sur ces leviers que nous pourrons véritablement garantir un environnement d'apprentissage global, équitable et paré pour l'avenir, couvrant la société dans son ensemble. »
À l'heure actuelle, la technologie remodèle déjà l'éducation, de la maternelle à l'université. Ces dernières années, des élèves de tous niveaux ont utilisé des solutions Ed-Tech pour soutenir leurs besoins d'apprentissage. Egalement pour trouver leur chemin vers l'emploi.
« Nous l'avons constaté dans la pratique grâce à notre collaboration avec le Rural Education Access Program (REAP) de l'université Stanford. Ce programme visait à apporter un apprentissage assisté par ordinateur aux élèves des écoles rurales de Chine. Ils ont ainsi gagné un semestre entier d'apprentissage grâce à l'utilisation du logiciel CAL4 ».
Ecole numérique : des ordinateurs, mais pas seulement
Dans le même temps, la Flandre débloque davantage de budget pour les coordinateurs TIC dans les écoles. De son côté, Bruxelles souhaite équiper toutes les écoles d'une connexion Wi-Fi d'ici 2024. « Nous ne sommes qu'au début de ce voyage passionnant, estime André Willekens. La prochaine étape consiste à faire évoluer les processus collaboratifs, à former les enseignants. Et à développer une stratégie numérique concrète… »
Cette démarche est loin de se réduire aux appareils et à la connectivité. L'humain est au cœur de toute expérience éducative réussie. « Si nous voulons vraiment profiter des avantages des modèles éducatifs basés sur la technologie, nous devons veiller à ce que l'accès à la technologie et la culture d'apprentissage évoluent au même rythme. » Équiper les écoles d'ordinateurs, ce que la Flandre s'est engagée à faire, ne suffit pas. Les méthodes pédagogiques doivent être repensées en fonction des technologies axées sur les données. « Nous devons promouvoir des cultures numériques tournées vers l'avenir. Et rendre l'apprentissage plus efficace. Et dans tous les aspects de la numérisation, une approche stratégique à long terme est nécessaire pour soutenir véritablement les élèves. »
Un aperçu de l'avenir de l'éducation
Alors, à quoi ressemble concrètement la transformation numérique dans le secteur de l'éducation ? Tout d'abord, il faut prévoir des appareils compatibles avec un large éventail de dispositifs mobiles, afin que tous les élèves aient accès à la salle de classe numérique et aux supports d'apprentissage. Peu importe qu'ils disposent ou non du haut débit. Une fois que la 5G sera déployée à grande échelle, des technologies émergeront qui offriront de nouvelles opportunités incroyables pour l'enseignement. Et elles élargiront de manière exponentielle les possibilités offertes aux enseignants comme aux élèves.
« Il suffit de penser aux possibilités de la RV dans une salle de classe numérique, entrevoit André Willekens. Cette technologie va transformer le contenu des leçons et les rendre plus attrayantes et captivantes. Imaginez une IA capable de renforcer le rôle de l'enseignant et de l'assister dans ses tâches administratives et interactives… » Dans l'enseignement supérieur, le HPC (High Performance Computing) et l'IA sont déjà en train d'accélérer la recherche universitaire. Il en résulte un tsunami de données et un réel besoin de rapidité dans leur analyse. « À l'université de Gand, par exemple, nous avons participé à l'installation de nouveaux systèmes de stockage et de sauvegarde pour gérer cet afflux de données sans précédent, au moyen d'une plateforme de stockage distribuée pouvant être gérée de manière centralisée. »
Un regard neuf sur l'éducation
En créant un écosystème qui gère et traite les données rapidement, nous pourrons bientôt faire des découvertes révolutionnaires, qu'il s'agisse de combattre la prochaine pandémie à la vitesse de l'éclair ou de réinventer les traitements pour les patients atteints de cancer.
« Nous sommes à un carrefour unique, avec une vision claire et les outils nécessaires pour atteindre notre objectif, assure André Willekens. La réduction de la fracture numérique n'a jamais été aussi importante qu'aujourd'hui, d'autant plus que nous cherchons à combler les inégalités en matière d'accès à l'éducation et à encourager une reprise économique innovante, axée sur la collectivité et porteuse d'avenir. »
Cette reprise doit être ambitieuse et répondre aux besoins de compétences à long terme. Un regard neuf sur l'éducation peut nous aider à rendre le monde plus résilient. Et nous savons tous que pour y parvenir, nous devons donner la priorité aux élèves. La technologie est plus susceptible que jamais d'aider à résoudre les principaux défis auxquels est confrontée notre société.
