Ruth: The Romance Of Repentance And Inclusion P6 (Right Garment)
IN THE days when the judges ruled, there was a famine in the land. And a certain man of Bethlehem of Judah went to sojourn in the country of Moab, he, his wife, and his two sons. The man's name was Elimelech and his wife's name was Naomi and his two sons were named Mahlon [invalid] and Chilion [pining]; they were Ephrathites from Bethlehem of Judah. They went to the country of Moab and continued there. But Elimelech, who Naomi's husband, died, and she was left with her two sons. And they took wives of the women of Moab; the name of the one was Orpah and the name of the other Ruth. They dwelt there about ten years; And Mahlon and Chilion died also, both of them, so the woman was bereft of her two sons and her husband. And Ruth said, Urge me not to leave you or to turn back from following you; for where you go I will go, and where you lodge I will lodge. Your people shall be my people and your God my God. Where you die I will die, and there will I be buried. The Lord do so to me, and more also, if anything but death parts me from you. Ruth 1:1-5, 16-17 AMPC
This morning we stay in chapter three the defining chapter of this great book of Ruth the one included in the will by romance. In chapter one verse nine Naomi prayed for the marriage of her daughter in-law and chapter three opens with the same zest and gusto she had but, the motive was security and self preservation more than any other thing. She was tapping into the goodwill of Boaz, she gave firm instructions to Ruth who promised to do totally as she was instructed. This could have backfired but praise God Boaz was a man of integrity and there are not so many today you know.
I am particularly interested today in the fact that she wore her best dress by instruction. Like I said yesterday, this was the same action Queen Esther took before going to see the king. I tell people that dating is a game and we have allowed it to go so extreme today that it has lost its real value, as we deceive each other and was not the original plan or design. This reminds me, Relationships have four stages...
Let's explore this theme a little. The first is boy meets girl and is called acquaintance. Now this stage starts with a rush. You see that rush is akin to throwing a stone into a lake. The stone would cause what in geography they call a geyser. That is a splash. When that splash settles it forms rings and that ring keeps going until interrupted by objects and continues until it hits land. I call the rings our circle of existence. Now this rush is likened to infatuation and it never lasts beyond a period of three months. So avoid this over excitement and love smartly as you head on the road to building a great relationship and possibly a home.
The second stage is where you become friends. This is where we let down our guards and get Deep information about each other that helps determine the furtherance of the romance or relationship. This is the getting to know each others likes and dislikes stage. The real person shows at this stage. This stage we must never play with as it determines the distance of the relationship will go. The next two stages man has changed from the original design of God. We ought to get married before we become lovers alas, we become lovers then want to get married and we find ourselves asking today, why the divorce and break up rates are so high? Please note that any stage you miss you cannot get back. This means many jump from acquaintances to lovers with absolute strangers and expect it to last?
Well Ruth followed the instructions presented to her and uncovered Boaz leg. This was a marriage proposal and he told her to wait he would sort it out and was honored she picked him. This act of loyal love that Ruth pursued for Naomi was according to law (see Deut 25:5-10). Boaz acknowledged that Ruth stayed loyal to Naomi despite apparent poverty reminds one that your life can so impact others that it alters their thinking. God's care for us is such he spares no expense. Ruth dressed and wore perfume as if to go see a king. If we realize that dating is such that we have a semblance of going before the King or Queen and know that even your appearance can alter how you are related to and this brings to mind the statement, dress as you would want to be addressed. There are several garments we west in life and relationships. We ought to know the right garments to wear. Father make us prepared to wear the Right Garments and that you be the center of our relationships in Jesus name Amen. Shalom
