He explained, "I knew pretty much, from when I was eight or nine years old, that this is what I wanted to do, just because it's so stupid, it's such a silly job. I kind of can't believe people get paid for it."
He spent time working with his father in the backstage during productions and that was how he got hooked.
He said, "When you're a little kid, and you're backstage seeing all these crazy, magical people floating in and out of your life, it can't help but cast a spell on you. I wanted to be part of that."

His parents went their separate ways when he was 4, and he had to start living with his mother who was an actress and a writer. It wasn't so easy landing a gig in the entertainment industry, and he didn't give up either.
He didn't go to college rather he went on to improve his acting skills where he made appearances in television.
He went to get his first ever production and leading role in 1984 where he starred in the film No Small Affair alongside Demi Moore.
The movie wasn't his breakthrough, but they both will be remembered for the romance which followed after.

In 2019, Demi Moore revealed in her memoir that she has sexual relationship with Jon Cryer during filming. Moore also disclosed that she took Jon's virginity and Jon went on to dispute the statement in a twitter post.
Cryer wrote on Twitter, "Well, the good thing about this is she doesn't have to feel bad about it anymore, because while I'm sure she was totally justified making that assumption based on my skill level (and the stunned look on my face at the time), I had actually lost my virginity in high school."

He continued: "But she's right the other part, I was over the moon for her during a very troubled time in her life. I have nothing but affection for her and not a regret in the world."
Jon Cryer was all in for the relationship without having any idea if Demi Moore was going all in for him.

He only realized this after visiting her house.
"I went to her house, and her housekeeper greeted me," Cryer recalled. "And I asked, 'Oh, where's Demi?' She said, 'She's out with her boyfriend.' And I said, 'But I'm her boyfriend.'"
"That probably happened two days into the relationship. I was like, 'Yes. This is it, I know it. But at the time, she was more grown-up than me and more sophisticated. And I have a feeling I got in a lot deeper than she did."

Jon Cryer was heartbroken after the incident, and Demi Moore in her memoir regretted how she treated him. She described herself as being"callous."
