In the Aloha state, the sun is strong during the day. So much so that it is unbearable, say between 10 AM to 4 PM. This is the case even in February when I visited it.
Most outdoor activities are best early in the morning before the sun is awake or late in the afternoon after sunset. Many opportunities available. Be it jogging, walking the dog, water sports. It is common to see surfers out there get a jump on the day and catach a few waves.
In mid-days when the sun is in its full strength, many locals wrap themselves in long sleeves and pants to shield themselves form the UV rays. Some carry umbrellas, not for the rain, which is infrequent, but for the shade while out about. Tourists are, on the other hand, in tank top and shorts, easy to spot.
Even with careful sunscreen applications, one gets dark easily from the tropical sun. Almost unavoidable in this paradise, my left arm becomes darker than my right in just a few days from driving my rental car around with AC on full blast.
The question I have is this: what is Summer in Hawaii like?
